History / Excerpt
Construction
Built in 1871 as the first central slaughterhouse in the city of Dresden, its main building has served as a concert venue since 1998.
Conversion
A restaurant was established in 1879, and a technical school for the training of butchers' apprentices opened in 1895. However, as there was only very limited space for expansion, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries there were plans to build a new slaughterhouse at another location.
Closure
Construction of a new slaughterhouse in the Great Ostragehege, today's Dresden Trade Fair. Its commissioning led to the closure of the Old Slaughterhouse on March 31, 1907.
Exhibition and concert hall
During the course of the 20th century, the area served various businesses, including as a warehouse. Since 1998, the renovated building complex has been used as an exhibition, event and concert hall.
